Our Commitment to ESG Policies and Compliance
As a company, we are mindful that investors are sometimes presented with a false choice that presupposes there is a trade-off between financial returns versus social impact. Our mission of Helping the Planet AND our Farming Communities SPP’s business model and its approach to the marketplace recognize the importance of creating shareholder value but doing so in a sustainably positive way that also delivers returns beyond narrowly defined financial metrics. When we reflected on our own motivations for launching this company and pursuing our particular strategic approach to the marketplace, we did so with a great degree of intentionality and an understanding of the importance of measuring both our social impact and the sustainability of our business model in terms of its profitability.

We have taken an ESG integration approach in developing Carbon Alliance Group; hence, our six impact principles form part of our operational dashboard, as well as our incentive system, and more broadly measure (1) the quality of our products, (2) the sustainability of our business, and (3) the continuity of our relationships with Agricultural Communities. Our metrics are integrated throughout our investment cycle and informed by internationally accepted sustainable development goals. In addition to these more formal goals, a culture of diversity and inclusiveness is an important aspect of how we govern and grow the business and is reflective of the diverse community that we serve.

Our mission, vision, and values are best captured by our six ESG impact principles defined below, which we believe are complementary to our business objectives and the long-term success of our shareholders.

Quality:
While we subscribe to William A. Foster’s interpretation of quality—“Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives”, we define it as our ability to consistently produce high-quality results, the quality and usability of our products, and the quality of our people who drive results. We measure it by indicators such as our financial results, our repair & maintenance cost levels, product volumes, and our employee and client satisfaction levels.
Sustainability:
Our interpretation of sustainability is viewed from the perspective of our ability to have a continuously positive impact on our shareholders, stakeholders, and communities, with the needs of clients and helping them with their compliance remaining central to our approach. We measure sustainability in terms of profitability, client and employee continuity, and the resource and energy efficiency of our projects.
Resourcefulness:
This is one of our ESG principles to always remind us to use resources wisely and consider alternative cost-effective approaches to how we do business and how we solve problems, remaining ever mindful of the potential consequences of our proposed solutions..
Inclusiveness:
We view inclusiveness from several aspects, but central to all of them is a high degree of participation in decision-making with gender, age, and multicultural diversity featuring prominently. Given the interconnectedness of people, communities, and stakeholders, and the high degree of dependency on each, we believe that input from diverse perspectives leads to better outcomes.
Service:
In addition to having a diverse and inclusive workforce, we foster a culture of service, accountability, and empowerment where high standards and positive results are expected. Dignity, respect, empathy, and communication are the four pillars of our service culture and are measured through resident satisfaction surveys and employee reviews. We believe that if we achieve high resident satisfaction levels from our residents, we will deliver superior results for our shareholders.
Partnership:
We believe that strong partnerships with investors and stakeholders allow us to go further, faster, and achieve more than we would alone. We look for synergistic partnerships with a diverse group of farming organizations that are as passionate about their mission as we are about ours. Where those missions intersect is where we seek to form long-lasting relationships that advance our mutual interests for the collective good. We regularly monitor the number and quality of our partnerships through both quantitative and qualitative factors..
